How To Start My Baby On Solid Foods: Part 3
SINGLE INGREDIENT SUCCESS! WHAT'S NEXT?
At about 6 months, your baby may be ready for a combination of foods. The Academy of Pediatrics recommends providing baby with a variety of fruits, veggies, grains, proteins, and healthy fats to help build their palate and provide them with essential nutrients.
First, try combos of foods that are easier on the tummy and familiar to your baby. Try blends that include ingredients you've had success with already like sweet potato, butternut squash, peas, carrots, peaches, pears, apple, mango, oats, quinoa, rice, yogurt, lentils, meats & bone broth.
WE GOT YOU.
Our "Peachy Oatmeal" is a great 6+ mos Square Meal to start with (see picture above) -- perfectly balanced with organic peaches, carrots, whole milk Greek yogurt, and gluten-free oats. This puree has a nice smooth texture to bridge you from single-ingredient smooth purees to more adventurous, chunkier Square Meals as they grow.
CHOOSE A SPOON!
This is important. It is essential to teach your baby to eat from a spoon so they can develop the proper feeding & swallowing skills. We totally get it, pouches can be a convenient, on-the-go option when you're in a pinch -- but you don't want your baby only sucking out of pouches and limited to eating primarily thin, smooth, and often overly-processed purees.
TEXTURE IS GOOD!
As your baby grows, you'll want to spoon-feed various textures so they can grow up to enjoy all kinds of foods. Square Baby purees come in smooth, thick, and chunky textures so your lil babe will be ready to transition to table/finger foods, which is an important milestone.
SPICE IT UP!
Now is a great time to start introducing a little herbs and spices like curry, mint, cinnamon, turmeric, and ginger! Packed with antioxidants and high-power nutrients, herbs and spices add flavor and brightness without any sugar.
ADD NEW FOODS!
At about 8 months, your baby's tummy will be ready to take on some new foods like cauliflower, white beans, broccoli, etc. Start with smaller amounts to see how they tolerate them (translate: might not want to give your baby a 4 oz serving of "just beans" -- because gas is no fun!)
ENCOURAGE YOUR LIL "FOODIE"!
Finally, make your way towards more complex meals with adventurous foods and flavors to continue to broaden their palate.
SQUARE BABY TO THE RESCUE!
Our "Spinach Dahl" is a super-delish 8+ mos Square Meal -- you'll feel like a rockstar parent when your baby gobbles down spinach, sprouted green lentils, pear, tomato, bell peppers, sprouted brown rice, avocado oil, and Indian spices like curry & cumin!
It's the perfect mix of sweet and savory and introduces spices to add warmth (and nutrition!) to the meal. Plus, it's got a little more texture to help your baby get ready for table foods.
Don't worry! We got you. Square Baby was born to make parents' lives easier.
