60,000 Babies Saved From Early Peanut Allergen Introduction

The headlines say it all: 60,000 babies saved. 60,000 futures without fear. No hives. No panic. No EpiPens in every backpack. All because parents said "YES" to science. "YES" to introducing allergens early.

What we’ve always known, has been proven again. Introducing allergens early and often saves lives.

Research by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) shows the significant decrease in peanut allergies following the landmark LEAP Study and public health recommendations to introduce allergens early and often. In fact, peanut allergies have dropped 43% since the recommendations were updated 10 years ago -- encouraging families to introduce allergens like peanut, egg, and milk as early as 4 to 6 months of age (vs previous recommendations to avoid them).

Additionally, the lead author of the LEAP Study and a pediatric immunologist, Gideon Lack, MBBCH, MA, shares that more than 150,000 peanut allergies were likely prevented over the last 10 years as a result of the shift in recommendations.

Square Baby Leads in Early Allergen Introduction

This is why we're so proud that Square Baby has been a pioneer in Early Allergen Introduction since 2018 -- with a menu of 13 fresh organic meals that, together, help introduce 8 different top allergens -- safely and deliciously to your baby.

Not to mention, Square Baby meals also offer 100% of baby's daily recommended servings of veggies, fruit, whole grains, and protein based on AAP recommendations and USDA Birth to 24 Guidelines. And because our meals are always veggie-first, our balanced meals have 1/2 the sugar and twice the protein and healthy fats as most pouches. Because babies deserve better than just applesauce with a pinch of 'superfoods'.

Why Introducing Allergens "Early and Often" Is Key

But introducing allergens like peanuts isn't a one-time thing. This is why allergists and pediatricians stress the importance of introducing allergens "early and often".  Because tolerance is built with regular, repeated exposure to the allergen.  Babies in the LEAP Study consumed about 6 grams of peanut protein (equivalent to about 23 peanuts) per week (or 2g of peanut protein, 3 times per week) to reduce the risk of peanut allergy by over 80%.

One tablespoon of Square Baby's Peanut Powder conveniently delivers 2g of peanut protein -- just as recommended by the LEAP Study!

Science-based, balanced nutrition and early allergen introduction is also why Square Baby meals continue to be recognized by leading publications and registered dietitians.

And for recommending Square Baby meals for Early Allergen Introduction and Food Allergy Prevention!

Special shoutout to the Registered Dietitians at Good Housekeeping for the thorough review our of product, nutrition, and overall brand experience. These reviews mean so much coming from a fellow Registered Dietitian and mama.

"Even as a dietitian, introducing solids to my baby for the first time came with so many questions. How thick is too thick for a purée? Which foods should come first? Between all the research and the prep, it definitely felt like a lot to juggle as a new mom.

That’s why I decided to splurge on a few high-quality, premade baby food brands, and Square Baby was one of them. Designed by a dietitian and made in small batches, these nutrient-dense meals include just the right amount of common allergens (like tree nuts) to help make allergen introduction easier and more consistent. Each meal arrives frozen to lock in freshness, so there’s no rush to use it right away, which is a relief, especially at the higher price point.

One blend my son loved included all-organic ingredients like kabocha squash, banana, white beans, almond butter, and whole wheat flour. Beyond the ingredients, I really appreciate that the brand does strict heavy-metal testing and follows strong quality-control standards, two things that give me extra confidence as both a mom and a dietitian." -- Stefani Sassos MS, RD, CDN, NASM-CPT
